Nordic Championships 2018: The overall medal table from 2018 tournament

Sweden win the Nordic Championship 2018 due of a gold medal more than the Norwegians have on the second place. But the victory is not entirely controversial. It depends if you apply the classic medal table system with the lexicographical order sorted by the number of gold, silver and bronze medals  or if you give points for each medal (3 points for a gold medal, 2 points for the silver medal and 1 point for the bronze medal). With the point system, then Norway would have won with a point more than the Swedish national team. However, we also use the classic system as it is used in the Olympics, for example.

Norway has steadily increased in recent years. So the strong performance in this years Nordic Championship is not really surprising. Also Sweden fulfilled the expectations and proved once again how dominant they are in the small category. Although there was no medal in the individual competition – despite a good position before the last run – for them. Finland remained below the expectations in their home tournament. Nevertheless, they are still by far the most successful nation of the meanwhile more than 20 year old history of the tournament. Only Denmark is the only one of the Four Nations without a gold medal during the competition, but they won the most silver medals. All in all a good tournament for them.
