Canada cancels national team tryouts for 2021

In an official letter, the management of the Canadian national team, under the care of the Canadian Kennel Club, announced that the planned qualification tournament at Stony Plain in the province of Alberta from April 24 to 25, 2021, had been cancelled. The tournament would have determined the national team representing Canada at the World Championship in Estonia at the end of September and at the European Open in Portugal in July. The cancellation was made because of the still spreading Covid-19 pandemic and the accompanying measures of the federal and provincial governments. For example, no tournament could be held at this time due to the limitation of people in outdoor and indoors areas. The government also advises that there should be no unnecessary travel.

The responsible persons do not expect a quick improvement of the situation. Nevertheless, a solution is being prepared if the European Open and the World Championship take place as planned. (Editor’s note: Both the European Open and the World Championship are held according to the official sources). The exact solution for selection is still being worked out. The letter which was published on the official Facebook page indicates that this should be done in the form of video recordings. In other words, the teams will have to do a course of the Czech World Championship judge of 2017 Petr Pupik which would have judged the tryouts, at one or more designated locations. Further information will be communicated on the official channels at a later date.
