Switzerland carries out final AWC qualification 2020 in Germany – and encounters criticism

Switzerland is outsourcing the qualifying finals for the 2020 World Championship to Germany near the Swiss border. This can be found in the calendar for the next year. The finals will be held, for the first time, at the Agility Zentrum Albbruck on 6 and 7 June 2020. The municipality Albbruck is located on German soil and is separated only by the Rhine and the border from Switzerland. But exactly this border now provides for some discussion within the Swiss community. According to the association (TKAMO), it is not against the rules to held such an event in a foreign country. These were clarified in advance with the National Cynological Society. Many see that step as a violation because the Cynological Society only has the right to apply the statutes and rules on its own land.

Either way, the decision provides in many ways discomfort. On the one hand, because Switzerland has one of the most modern infrastructure in its own country, but has still to resort to foreign countries to held official competitions. For example, the 2017 opened Swiss Dog Arena in Münsingen, probably the largest Agility arena in the world and last year’s host of the finals. This is not just due to the TKAMO. For the two-day finals there was only a single application, the one from Albbruck. The small number of applications for qualifications and national championships are mainly because of the high demands imposed on the organizers. Requirements that in turn are demanded by the community itself. The assignment to the modern Agility Zentrum Albbruck, which started operation last summer, is definite. Despite all the displeasure, it will therefore be decided on German soil who will represent Switzerland at the World Championship in Estonia. Whether one adapts also to the lower priced Germany is currently still in the stars. Also new is the compulsory vacination of rabies, which brings with it the border crossing into the European Union and the return journey to Switzerland.
